Villeroy & Boch  (Mettlach, Germany)
Read about the history of this 'lifestyle manufacturer', whose headquarters are still located in a former Benedectine abbey (bought in 1809) along with their Ceramics Museum. Today their many products are made throughout Europe, and their ceramic wares range from tableware, bathroom and kitchen accessories, to sanitary ware and tiles. (Some of the latter can be seen in the Holland Tunnel.) Dinnerware comes in bone china, porcelain and earthenware, with some whiteware.
Browse the products online, or visit their various factory shops. While at Mettlach also visit the Discovery Centre with its extensive displays, park surrounds, and features such as the world's largest ceramic puzzle. This puzzle or Map of the Living World was made by Stefan Szczesny, comprises 12 wall murals, and encloses a pavilion designed by Andre Heller.    In various languages.
